Our seasoned stylist & Extension Specialist, Ashley, is sharing her insider knowledge on the dos and don’ts of hair extensions. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, her insights into extension types, care routines, and long-term maintenance are essential reading.

Choosing the best hair extensions will guarantee success even for those new to using them. The tips shared here work well for any human hair extensions. We do not recommend the use of synthetic hair extensions since you can't apply heat to them.


There are various types of extensions—beaded row, tape-in, or keratin bond extensions. Some styles will require them to achieve optimum results. Having a conversation with your hair artist is recommended when planning. Ladies with shorter, thinner hair will have greater success when adding extensions for texture, thickness and length to achieve the look you desire.

Tip #1: Choose Quality Extensions


  • DO use high-quality, 100% human hair extensions – they blend better, last longer, and can be heat-styled just like your natural hair.

  • DO consult a licensed stylist to select the best type (tape-ins, sew-ins, keratin bonds, clip-ins) for your hair type, budget and lifestyle.


Tip #3: Maintain Proper Daily Care


  • DO brush your hair gently every day with a boar bristle brush.

  • DO sleep with your hair in a loose braid or ponytail to reduce tangling and friction.

  • DO use a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize breakage and frizz.

  • DO use sulfate-free and alcohol-free shampoos and conditioners.

  • DO use a heat protectant spray when styling with hot tools.

  • DO use a leave-in conditioner or detangler spray on mid-lengths to ends (not the roots!).

Fine hair can often be a challenge to style. We got you! Here are some tips for styling fine, limp hair from your BCH beauty experts.


One day dirty is best but if that's not your vibe, here's what we recommend.

  1. Wash hair the night before

  2. Add volumizing mousse

  3. Blow dry

  4. For smooth styles, so not sleep with a ponytail or messy bun.

  5. For added volume, add a dry shampoo in the morning or our stylists will do it during your appointment. Dry shampoo adds texture and absorbs excess oils that will make styling easier.
